When we find ourselves in collective upheaval
it is the task of the individual to stay steady,
and breathe.

I had been planning to launch the Oasis Therapy Center blog after the holiday season that will soon be upon us, but after awakening to a divided world this morning, I decided what better time than now? In this historical moment, we are all needing to process the shift that our country, and world, are living through.
No matter where on the spectrum you land politically, the universal task ahead of us is inescapable--
to come together and heal. To take good care of ourselves and others. To not forgot our deep capacity for kindness and human decency.
In the words of Martin Luther King Jr., "People fail to get along because they fear each other; they fear each other because they don't know each other; they don't know each other because they have not communicated with each other.”
Today, walking through a stunned world, be gentle with yourselves and others--in traffic, in line at the grocery, on the phone with a customer service rep who is frustrating you. Pay close attention to the humanity in us all.
And there is no place better to start the process of turning down the collective anxiety than with ourselves. Take good care of yourself. Turn to your self-care practices--eat well, hydrate, rest, listen to your breath, give a hug to a beloved, take a walk.
Fill your own tank, so you have more to give to those in your life.
My dear teacher/friend, Shawn Parell reminds us, "Breathe peace, be peace, bring peace. Steady. Our world is counting on us."
